In adults, taking multivitamins is recommended even after surgery, because it can prevent the development of chronic diseases such as heart disease, some cancers and osteoporosis. /Fairfield KM Fletcher RH Vitamins for chronic disease prevention in adults: scientific review JAMA 2002;287:3116-3126./

How can I consume fluids and food before my anaesthetic surgery?
No liquids should be consumed 4 hours and no food 6 hours before the procedure.
What happens before anaesthesia?
Before the anaesthesia, we check that everything is signed and all the papers are in order, and then we show you to your room. With the help of our nurse, we prepare you for the surgery, which includes bathing, changing clothes and venous access. The anaesthetist will quickly examine you, and then the marking and imaging documentation will be done. We then put the compression stockings on you and, once you have met everyone and feel ready, you are taken to the operating theatre. In the operating theatre, the anaesthetist’s assistant will receive you and place the ECG monitor and check your vein, then the anaesthetist will ventilate your lungs with fresh air using a mask, give you the anaesthetic drugs and the procedure starts.
Do I need blood thinners for plastic surgery?
For each surgery, we assess the risk of thrombosis on an individual basis and protect against the forming of blood clots accordingly.
Will I get antibiotics during surgery?
Yes, we will always give a dose of intravenous antibiotics a short time before surgery to minimise the risk of wound infection, but after that the type of surgery will determine whether we continue.
After the surgery
What happens after the surgery?
After the surgery, you will be taken back to your room in your compression garment and a nurse will check your condition. If all is well, you can go home the next morning with someone accompanying you.
How painful is an intervention afterwards?
The first 24 hours are usually the most painful, but stronger painkillers are given during this period. Afterwards, the painkiller supplied is usually sufficient at home.
How long should I keep the wound dry?
In any case, you can shower and get water on the wound 48 hours after the surgery, unless otherwise requested. Soaking is not recommended.
How should I bathe after surgery?
It is recommended to remove the bandage and then shower the wound. Then gently dry the area and treat it with a wound disinfectant. If the area is dry, you can cover it with an island dressing that is appropriate for the size of the wound.
For how long is wearing a compression garment recommended?
Compression garments are recommended for 6-8 weeks and we provide them. If you need a replacement item of clothing, we can help you with that too.
When is the suture removal done?
The suture removal is done at a different time on each body part. Following the blepharoplasty, the suture is removed one week after the surgery, and from a lesion on the back three weeks after the surgery. We mostly work with absorbable sutures after breast and abdominal surgery, so there is no need for suture removal.
How painful is the suture removal?
It is not painful, just unpleasant.
What should I use for the scar?
The scar will reach its final shape about a year after the surgery. I usually recommend a silicone patch, and sun protection is important!
Breast plastic surgery
Do I need a breast examination before breast surgery?
Yes, you should definitely have a breast ultrasound and mammogram before breast surgery.
Can I get a screening test with an implant?
It can be, and should be, mandatory if a symptom or complaint occurs between the ages of 30 and 35. Mammography is the only scientifically proven method for screening women at average risk to reduce breast cancer mortality.
What breast examinations can I have after implantation?
The implant is not a ground for refusal. It is recommended to complete the screening with an MRI scan 3 years after implantation.
Is imaging necessary for implant replacement?
Yes, it is necessary in all cases. Mammography and ultrasound, if there is suspicion of implant damage, this should be complemented by an MRI scan.
My implant has ruptured, can I have a mammogram?
Yes, a special technique can be used to examine breast tissue.
